Over three years of intensive study, the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, working with the Community Health Council of Wyandotte County, uncovered massive opportunities in creating/sustaining health equity among a large section of the community. Historical property value discrimination (starting with redlining in the 1930’s) has snowballed over time into neighborhoods suffering from inadequate housing, lack of access to adequate health care, and environmental health injustices.
This is an important report, demonstrating the pernicious alignment of numerous determinants of health and inequity: race, poverty, housing prices, housing quality, geography, hospital admissions, life expectancy, &c., &c.
