The International Association for Research on Service Learning and Community Engagement awarded its 2019 Public Scholarship award to Dotte Agency at its 2019 Annual Meeting in Albuqueque, NM in October.
In their notification to us they said: “On behalf of the board of the International Association of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement, I am delighted to share that you have been awarded the 2019 Public Scholarship Award. This is the first year of this important award, and we received a number of strong nominations. The Public Scholarship Award recognizes “excellent interdisciplinary research that has a demonstrable ameliorative impact on pressing public issues with a special focus on the knowledge needs of policymakers and practitioners. This award recognizes research that generates non-traditional scholarly products, presented in a manner that is widely accessible to targeted audiences and/or the general public.” The committee was deeply impressed by the work of Dotte Agency within the University of Kansas, as reflected by the materials in your nomination packet. These projects exemplify the spirit of this award in leveraging academic research to inform policymakers and practitioners, and empower citizens, to tackle pressing public health challenges facing their communities. Thank you for modeling such exemplary work for our field, and congratulations on this well-deserved recognition - we could not have hoped for more worthy recipients.”
